Choosing a Door
Which Insulation Is Right for You?
Insulation changes how warm, quiet and solid your door feels. Here’s the short version, and we’re happy to talk it through at the measure.
1
Most affordable
Non-Insulated
Single-layer steel with no insulation. The most affordable option, and the lightest door on your springs and opener.
2
Quieter
Vinyl-Back Insulated
Steel face with insulation and a vinyl backing. Quieter and more solid, with a finished look from inside the garage.
3
Warmest
Thermal Insulated
A 2-inch door with steel on both sides and insulation in between. Our warmest, quietest and strongest door, and the only one with flush panels and woodgrain finishes.

How much does garage door installation cost?
It depends on the size, insulation and options you choose. For a standard residential opening, installed prices typically run about $1,450 to $1,950 for a single-car door (8 or 9 ft wide) and about $2,300 to $3,200 for a 16 ft double door, before windows, decorative hardware or an opener. That includes the door, new track and trim, removal of your old door, and labor. Use the price builder on this page to see the exact installed price for your door, and we’ll confirm it at a free in-home measure.
How long does it take to get a new door?
It depends on the door. Some popular doors, usually white raised-panel doors in 8×7, 9×7, and 16×7, may be in stock at the local distribution center and can go in quickly. Everything else is built to order, which typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. We’ll tell you which applies when we measure.
How long does installation take?
Most installs are done in a single visit. We remove the old door, install the new door, track and trim, adjust and test everything, and haul the old door away before we leave.
Is the price on this page what I’ll pay?
For a standard residential opening, yes. The price includes the door, installation, track, trim and haul-away. The free in-home measure confirms it before anything is ordered. The price only changes if the opening needs something extra, like low headroom track, framing repairs or a non-standard size, and we’ll tell you before any work is done.
How do I know what size door I need?
Measure the width of the opening from side to side and the height from the floor to the top of the opening. Most homes have 8 or 9 ft wide single doors or a 16 ft wide double door, 7 ft tall. If you’re not sure, pick the closest size in the builder. We confirm exact measurements at the free in-home measure.
Should I get a 7 ft or 8 ft tall door?
Your new door is sized to your opening, so most people replace like for like. Most homes have 7 ft tall openings. An 8 ft door only fits a taller opening, unless the opening is enlarged, which is a framing job we’d talk through at the measure.
Can I keep my current opener?
Often, yes. If your opener is in good working order and suited to the new door, we’ll reconnect it. Insulated doors weigh more than the doors they often replace, so we check your opener at the measure and let you know if it’s worth replacing at the same time.
What does wind-load rated mean?
A wind-load rated door is reinforced to stand up to strong wind pushing against it, so it’s less likely to bow, pop out of its tracks or fail in a storm. Every door we install comes wind-load rated as standard, at no extra charge.
What warranty comes with a new door?
The door and parts are covered by Garaga’s manufacturer warranty, and we warranty our installation labor for 1 year. If something we installed isn’t right, call us and we’ll make it right.
How does payment work?
We take a 60% deposit when you order the door, and the balance is due when the installation is complete. You can pay by card at no extra cost; we never add a credit card fee.
What if my HOA has rules about garage doors?
Check your HOA’s requirements for style, color and windows before you order, and share them with us at the measure. We’ll help you find a door that fits the rules. If your HOA needs product details for approval, we can provide them.
Should I repair or replace my garage door?
Many doors just need a spring, cables or rollers. If yours can be repaired and has good years left in it, we’ll tell you. A new door usually makes sense when panels are cracked or rusted through, the door keeps breaking, or you want a warmer, quieter garage. See our repair services.
